The weathered, broken hull of the SS Palo Alto cement ship

The boat

Why we're the shop at the foot of the boat

In 1930 a 435-foot concrete ship — the SS Palo Alto — was towed to Seacliff and turned into a floating amusement pier: a dance floor, a café, a heated saltwater pool. The Depression sank the party, a storm cracked her hull, and the "Cement Ship" settled into the sand for good.

Ninety-some years later she's still out there — half-sunk, crusted in pelicans, the most-photographed thing in Aptos. We set up shop right at the foot of the pier that walks you out to her.

So come grab a board, rent a wetsuit, pick up a deck — and go say hi to the boat. Welcome to Seacliff Surf & Skate.
